Literature Text

For two long years now, I’ve been on my own,
Or three since I’ve been forced to play this game.
Unguarded, this should cut me to the bone,
Reducing me to desperate fires to tame.
This holiday has never doused my flame;
Eclipses cannot hide forgotten stars.
Eccentric Valentine has only fame:
Now his sad holiday brings only scars.
Could I enjoy the day more at the bars,
Unbridled frolics bringing newfound joys?
Perhaps I’ll forgo Venus now for Mars:
I’ll wreak all sorts of havoc with my toys.
Despite my choice, I know one thing is true…
Somehow, the fourteenth’s better without you.

This is my entry for the Acrostic Poem challenge at :icondeviant365:

The prompt was to use one of four words to make an acrostic poem. I decided to challenge myself further. I made one of the words plural to get fourteen letters and made a sonnet. I'm not perfectly pleased with the meter, but that's what I get for combining forms. What I am pleased with is the actual poem and its outcome. Either I'm free and I get to use this holiday to crap on the memory of my ex, or the monster is still following me and gets to read this giant insult to him. If you're reading this, darling, why don't you print it off, crumple it up, and put it somewhere painful.

Seriously, Valentine's Day was awful with him and I never realized how happy I am to be free. I can do WHATEVER I WANT on Friday. I can go bar hopping, I can trash people in Pokemon, I can watch TV until my eyes bleed, and I answer to NO ONE. HAHAHAHA I WIN.

So uh, I'm very glad I've done this dA 365 thing. Sure, I've won a few of the challenges and winning has advantages, but it gets me to do things I wouldn't normally do, and reveal things I normally wouldn't. This has been very theraputic, more than the other "wah it's V-day and everyone else has someone" crap I wrote. It made me realize that all I really want for today is options. I suppose it's not too late to order myself something and sign it "Optimus Prime," right?
